The Little Museum of Dublin

Today the Little Museum of Dublin hosted "Where Were You?", a Dublin Youth Culture and Street Style event from 1950 - 2000. The entire setup was very impressive and on arrival we were presented with wine (white or red) and freshly cooked canapes and cake. The event was free to attend, you just had to register with the Museum before hand.

The Little Museum of Dublin
The event presented an array of old and interesting pictures from around Dublin city, showcasing the difference in life for the youth back then. You would not have seen such a well put together and vivid display of this anywhere else!

"Where were you?" - Dublin Youth Culture Event
After examining the photos of the "Where Were You" event, we ventured upstairs to explore the remainder of the museum. General entry to the museum is only €6 and tours run on the hour, every hour seven days a week. Click our blog post map link at the end of this post for directions to the museum.

I was soon to learn that every item in the museum has an intriguing story and this was explained impeccably by the knowledgeable staff. When you plan to go, I recommend taking the tour to get the full experience. You will be surprised with the amount of history associated with the artefact's in the museum.

The museum can accommodate large groups for guided tours and even private events such as receptions, birthdays and launch events etc. If you are planning something of this nature, the museum is an ideal venue. There is also an Irish cafe located in the basement of the building called Hatch and Sons, who serve artisan style food.

The museum is still relatively new, having only celebrated their 2nd birthday recently. I believe that this place will become a world class visitor attraction, not only for tourists, but for us locals too!

Limerick Races and Ladies Day October 2013

Today was the Ladbrokes Munster National & Keanes Jewellers Ladies day in Limerick Racecourse. With a €100,000 prize fund for the winning horse and €4,000 diamond ring for the best dressed lady, it was a day not to be missed.

Limerick Racecourse is easily accessible from Dublin by using the M7 and taking Exit 30. There is ample parking, all of which is located close to the front door of the racecourse. I have been to the majority of racecourses in the country and was particularly impressed with the way Limerick Racecourse is laid out.

View from the Stands of the Racecourse
It is very spacious and there is no issue getting a drink, even when the bar is busy. The stands are positioned for the perfect vantage point of the track, which has a beautiful water feature in the middle. The roof on the stands is surprisingly big, which is sure to keep the punters dry. Thankfully though, it did not rain today.

There is also an excellent catering area with a full carvery menu. However, if you would rather a more formal dining experience, there are many options available with their dining and hospitality packages.

Racecourse Stands
There are many places to bet in the Racecourse, including various Tote outlets and the outdoor bookies which are located to the left of the Stands. Most other racecourses have the bookies just in front of the track which obscures the view. This is a great idea by Limerick Racecourse by keeping the bookies to the left and the view of the course clear for the punters!

Horse Racing Action
The fashion stakes were very high today making it a difficult decision for the judges to pick the final ten best dressed ladies. The top prize was sponsored by Keanes Jewellers, an impressive €4000 diamond ring. There was also additional prizes for the best hat, best shoes/bag and for the two runners up. The competition was judged by Suzanne Jackson and Aisling Maher.

The Heartbeat of Home - A new generation of Irish Dancing

Its almost been 20 years since Riverdance hit our television screens, during the interval of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. It was an electrifying performance, recognised globally and really showed off our deep Irish culture and unique style of dance.

Last night I attended Heartbeat from Home at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, an Irish dancing show from the producers of Riverdance. The show started at 7.30pm sharp and was approx 2 hours in duration. I would also like to say thanks to RSVP Magazine as I won the tickets from their competition!

Heartbeat of Home Webpage
I have been to several other shows internationally such as "O" Cirque du Soleil in the Bellagio and "KA" Cirque du Soleil in the MGM Grand which are big headline shows. Las Vegas has some of the best shows in the world and comparing Heartbeat of Home to these, it was better than "O" and on par with KA.

The range of dance moves in Heartbeat of Home was varied, extensive and was very polished. The amount of work that has gone into the choreography is incredible and you can clearly see this from the spectacular performance. There was some nice little subtle elements in the show which reminded me of Riverdance, such as the Spanish dancing and the American element.

The show that we attended was being filmed for a DVD, which I will definitely get when it becomes available. It was that good you could watch it over and over!

Heartbeat of Home headlines in Dublin tonight for the last time and moves to China, Canada and the USA. We were seated in the STALLs which were great seats. If you don't have plans tonight, I recommend going to see this show as I have a strong feeling it will be the next big international sensation!
